My Lesbian Girlfriends was one of the first songs recorded on my own (2nd hand) 4-track recorder. I couldn’t afford a real synth back then, and used a cheap Casio PT20. It was the Orwellian year 1984.
I can still see it in front of my eyes: Wim and I were sitting on the ground, playing four-handed on a xylophone for kids. And all of a sudden that Eurovision melody came out... Improvised at the spot.
The lyrics are inspired by my life: I had two lesbian friends and fantasized about what would happen if I introduced them to one another.
Years later, I got to know Die Gedanken sind frei!, an old German song about freedom of thought, and it made me think about myself and these kind of situations.
