about
Everyone has stepping stones in their life, moments that will prove to be special.
In the beginning of the eighties, I moved from the countryside to Ghent. I was an architecture student at St. Lucas, and I discovered how different art forms can influence each other: music, painting, film and video, theatre, performance... It's all one piece.
Before that, I had mainly been listening to Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake but all of a sudden there were those records from Crammed and Les Disques du Crépuscule… A whole new world opened up for me. Also playing important roles in that world, were Holger Czukay, Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Laurie Anderson, Tuxedomoon... And Jah Wobble's How Much Are They? was playing on the radio every Wednesday.
From the moment I was thinking about making music, it was obvious that I would use samples and sounds from radio, television, field recordings, old tapes, movies and other gems I came across.
The Monkey House owes a lot to a special musical company that was living on the American west coast. They made strange deconstructionist albums, in which hours and hours of musical history went through the wringer. They wore eyeball helmets, top hats and tuxedos. They lived in little cages. And sometimes in rages. Can't remember the name though....

Something deeply artistic, imaginative and innovative blossoming here. Whoever says there isn’t amazing music being made right now clearly isn’t looking in the right places. Anadol is pain relief for fractured world Gareth Fitzpatrick
